Isaac is a very poor old man. About the author and translator
Yuri Shulevitz (Jieun)
He was born in Poland in 1935. His family, who are Jewish, fled their country, which had been engulfed by the fire of World War II, from the age of four, and wandered around Europe. The hopeless wandering life, which was the only joy of turning over picture books at bookstores, had a great influence on young Schlewitz's artistic sensibility. He moved to New York in 1957 and began taking art classes, from which time his artistic talents blossomed, winning the Caldecott Prize in 1968 for "The One and Only fool in the World and the Flying Boat." Other works include "Dawn", "Rainy Day", "The Map of the Dream I Met", "Treasure", "Secret Room", and "Winter Sunset".
